Week 3: Ice Pack Cover

•01/21/2012 • 2 Comments

Seeing as I spent most of this week sitting on an ice pack, it seemed only appropriate that I make the cover for it.  I had a nice cover that Mom made for me, but I can’t find it.  :(   My back has been really bad this week, so I couldn’t really do much more than something really easy.  I’m hoping it’s better next week, as I really want to get to work on the Seuss walls!

Week 2: Baby Hat +

•01/14/2012 • 1 Comment

The plan was to make a baby hat, but I started off with a hat for myself to test out the round knitting loom.  The baby hat ended up being preemie size, so I’ll probably end up making another one.  I had some extra yarn left over, so I made an adult hat as well.  Of course that one is too small for me.  Ah well.

2012: 52 Projects, Week 1

•01/03/2012 • 3 Comments

In 2011 I was able to get a number of projects done for gifts, and those were probably some of the highlights of my year.  I get so much joy from people enjoying a homemade gift that I made for them.  After a year off from taking 365 photos in 1 year, I felt it was time to start a new project.  As much as I’d love to do another photo project, I am still short on ideas, at least until we have another family member.  My thought was perhaps I could do something once a week rather than every day, and it would be easier.  Well, I’m not sure if doing a project a week will be all that easy, but it’s what I came up with.  Some projects will definitely take more than a week, but I think I can balance it with projects that will get done in a couple hours.  I’m still trying to come up with ideas that I can pick from, but here’s what I have so far.  Week 1′s project, make a list!  In no particular order:

  1. Make a list of projects
  2. Build a snowman
  3. Finish the Great Walls of Seuss
  4. Wildlife photography
  5. Wood carving
  6. Rag quilt for me
  7. Hair growth photo flip book
  8. Oven Mitts
  9. Super Secret Christmas present
  10. Baby photo announcement
  11. Plant a garden
  12. Gingerbread house
  13. Burp cloths/bibs
  14. Cover for Baby Bjorn
  15. Laundry Detergent
  16. Another Super Secret present
  17. Luggage tags
  18. Purse and/or Diaper Bag
  19. Pillows for the couch
  20. Fill empty picture frame
  21. Finish a scrapbook
  22. Knit baby hat
  23. Advent calendar quilt
  24. Chair cover
  25. Ice pack cover
  26. Filing cabinet cover
  27. Shower curtain
  28. Casserole carrier
  29. Camera strap slipcover
  30. Ironing board cover
  31. Grocery bag dispenser
  32. Bookkeeper
  33. Caramels
  34. Saddle
  35. Hand woven basket
  36. Butter
  37. Table runner
  38. Kitty multiplicity photo
  39. Collect stuff from town/state of birth for memory/keepsake box
  40. Theme fondant cake
  41. Wreath
  42. Carve a pumpkin
  43. Handmade jewelry
  44. Christmas cards
  45. Have a picnic
  46. DIY compost bin
  47. Write a bucket list
  48. Spring cleaning
  49. Memory/keepsake box
  50. Pretty house slippers
  51. “Bad Day” box
  52. Freezer Meals
  53. Lose 50 pounds
  54. Write a letter(s) to someone special
  55. Baby clothes

And that’s what I’ve come up with so far.  May add to it later, and I’m up for suggestions.

Kitty Present

•12/23/2011 • Leave a Comment

As is customary this time of year, the kitties like to help us wrap the presents.  Zoey in particular is obsessed with wrapping paper.  A number of times Sam had to remove her from the paper so that he could use it to wrap with.  I decided to throw it over her, and she didn’t move.  She probably would have let me wrap her up, but alas I was too busy to try.  Sam was the big meanie who put the bow around her neck.

Happy Thanksgiving!

•11/25/2011 • 3 Comments

We spent Thanksgiving day at Donna (big sis) and Big Dave’s house with most of the gang, including my niece Sharyn and family.  My grandniece (below) apparently takes after her Aunty Darleen, just saying!  I remember when her mom was this age… man I feel old.  We used Uncle Dave’s pretty green plates, which had to be used for a photo op, of course.

Sam doesn’t believe in saving room for dessert, so 6 pieces of pie later he found a comfy spot underneath the appetizer table.  Note his new Hello Kitty toy.  *snicker*

Homemade Pie Crust

I realize that this is probably the most boring picture to post, but it’s not really about the picture.  It’s about the fact that I actually made a pie crust from scratch!  That’s right, not only did I get it to stick together, but it also didn’t stick to the counter.  Simple for most of you I’m sure, but not so much for me!  I was so excited that I couldn’t even finish putting the pie together until I took a picture, floury hands and all.  Hopefully it actually tastes good, and is nice and flaky the way Mom likes it.

Happy Birthday, Logan!

Today is Mr. Logan’s birthday, and yesterday we gathered at Jake & Christie’s to celebrate.  Logan is very much into pirates right now, so we all got offered pirate hats, eye patches, and tattoos like the one on his arm.  Here he is showing his mom one of his favorite new toys!

A couple days ago I got this great book by Me Ra Koh on photographing babies, and thought I’d give her suggestions a try with Logan and Rosalee.  Not that Logan is a baby anymore, mind you, being a whole 6 years old!  But many of the same principles apply.  She, like I, prefers to capture a story with the picture rather than asking people to look at the camera and smile.  I’ve always had trouble photographing people for a number of reasons, one being that I’m not pushy enough to set myself up in the right spot for the picture.  I still need to work on that, but fortunately these kids are very accommodating.  Rosalee, in particular, is quite the ham.  Here she is enjoying the first piece of Logan’s birthday cake.  Note the animal crackers placed there to appease her while the cake was being cut up.

One good thing about walking over the bridge and all the way to downtown Nassau was being able to see what the non-tourist buildings looked like.  Most were run down and in serious need of paint, but still very colorful.
